No...but thanks for asking! - When I Grow Up
No...but thanks for asking! - When I Grow Up Every month, Im gonna stretch my designer-y skills and give ya my mantra (or a great quote from someone else, or a passing thought, or an a-ha! moment) as an image. You can print it out and tape it up where ya need to remind yourself of it, or download it as your desktop wallpaper, or add it to your Pinterest boardwhatever ya want! As a recovering people pleaser, I was used to saying Yes.and then coming up with a lil white lie down the line to get myself out of whatever I begrudgingly committed myself to. But as my mentor Judge Judy says, If you tell the truth, you dont have to have a good memory and my memory became quite terrible. I hated lying, I hated the guilt that came with it, and I certainly hated having to remember when I was sick or had to work late or visit my family. Horrible! Despite the fact that I honestly havent done that in a number of years, Im still conditioned to say Yes! I said Yes to everything that came my way when I was building my business and it was sooooo helpful in getting people to know who I am and what I do but then it got to the point that, well, there was just 1 of me and a whole lot of offers. Not that I wasnt grateful, but man oh man it became much too much! So, I took out my markers and my cardstock and wrote this NO (but thanks for asking) and taped it to my computer for a month. I said No, but thanks for asking! every time something wasnt a Hell Yes!, and it was just the barometer I needed. Hope its the barometer you need, too! (If youre one of those peeps who needs more Yes in their life, make your own YES (Id love to!) and stick it where itll make an impact. Would love to hear what comes out of it!)

Writing About Teamwork In A Resume
Writing About Teamwork In A ResumeWriting about teamwork in a resume will have an effect on how you find your dream job. Knowing that you are not alone in this challenge can help keep you motivated as you try to gather information for what your personal statement should really say. Before you start to write about teamwork in a resume, you will want to get a handle on what teamwork is. To do this, you will need to know what is meant by the term 'team.' This definition can be found in Merriam-Webster Dictionary and most definitions mean working together with others to complete a task or achieve a goal. What exactly is teamwork? The definition above is the one used by companies in resumes. You will find it in two different ways. When companies use the term teamwork in their resumes, they mean that someone from the team is responsible for determining the needs of the team and taking the necessary steps to meet those needs. This means that there is a mutual responsibility for everyone to con tribute to the success of the company. When they call the person in charge of teamwork 'team leader,' this means that there is an expectation that the individual must help direct the team to complete their assigned tasks. When they include that person's name in their resume, they mean that they are a critical member of the team who is responsible for not only the completion of the job, but to make sure the work is done properly, and that each member is able to contribute their full potential. The second way to define teamwork is to say that teamwork is an important part of the job. One example of teamwork may be a team that completes an assignment together. It does not have to be a formal project or presentation, but it could be something as simple as answering phone calls. You should take note of both definitions when you are trying to determine if you should include them on your resume. They will help you determine if you are included on a team with others who share the same goals a nd values as you do. If they do, then you have already accomplished what this group is looking for in a resume. If they do not, then you need to have a good chance at getting a job. There are many things to consider, and a combination of knowledge and a strong desire to succeed are what will help you.

A 30-Year-Old Who Quit Corporate Life to Earn 6 Figures Working Remotely From an Island Shares His Best Advice
A 30-Year-Old Who Quit Corporate Life to Earn 6 Figures Working Remotely From an Island Shares His Best Advice In 2014, Mike Zima and his wife Irena were vacationing in the Bahamas. âWe were floating like ducks in the warm water, and Chicago was an ice palace we didnât want to return to,â he told Business Insider. âWe wanted to be happy when we come home. To be fair, Chicago has good deep dish pizza, but we werenât happy coming home when we could have a better life.â Zima, now 30, and Irena had always known they wanted to move to Europe, and when they returned home, he started seriously looking into how they could make that happen. âThe typical transition is like, âOk, weâre going to move, Iâm going to find a job, everything will be all right,'â he said. âBut thatâs almost working against the grain, because relocating to another country is very difficult.â Zima started experimenting with Fiverr, a site that lets people pay others for tasks outside their expertise starting at $5 each. âI knew I would need income to supplement our lifestyle, because in Europe you have to take a pay cut with a traditional job,â he said. Zimaâs day job was in digital marketing, so he used his experience to start consulting in a similar vein. Over the next few years, he gathered expertise in Google Analytics to enhance his side gig, and soon, his web consulting started picking up. In 2015, his income from Fiverr âwent from $50 a month to a couple hundred a week,â he said. âI started getting good reviews, and thatâs when I had the day job and the side hustle side by side.â âAll of 2016 was me doing the side hustle on my lunch breaks,â he continued. âOn my way to work and on my way home â" almost every waking moment was going into this.â That was the year he and Irena bid Chicago goodbye and headed for Spain. Now, after a stint in Barcelona, he lives in Mallorca, the stunning Mediterranean resort island that hosts the Spanish royal family on their annual summer holiday. He supports himself through his own company, data analytics and social media agency Zima Media, which operates through the Fiverr Pro platform with cofounder Damien Bouvier, who is based in London. In 2017, he earned six figures. Because he makes his own schedule, Zima is able to prioritize himself over his work. He generally works about 60 hours a week, and right now heâs in the process of getting a Spanish driverâs license. Irena also works on Fiverr, doing photo retouching and helping Zima Media with administrative work and design. âMallorca is fantastic,â he said. âItâs almost a fairy tale.â For people who have similar dreams of creating remote work that lets them live anywhere in the world, Zima has some advice: âI got really good at one thing,â he said of mastering Google Analytics, âand then that just percolated to all of my other experiences. I took things that were a part of my day job, which I was very experienced at, and meshed it and overlapped it to make a more compelling offer.â He continued: âIf youâre going to start a side hustle, it has to be about either learning a skill you never had the chance to pick up on your own, or exploring something that makes you happy.â This article originally appeared on BusinessInsider.com.

In the MakingTime series, women share with us how, for one day, they chose to spend their most precious resurce time.--Who Sarah BernardWhat Co-CEO and Founder, BoBCat Studios, a multi-platform production companyWhere Los Angeles--425 a.m.My cat, Bud Light, punches me in the face, per usual. Shes ready for the day. I try to ignore her. (Ive now publicly admitted that I have a cat).600 a.m.Alarm.609 a.m.Snooze.618 a.m.Snooze. (Feeling a little guilty, now).627 a.m.Snooze. Ok, Im up. (As you can see, Im no Mark Wahlberg). Quick check of my email in bed for anything time sensitive. Generally, the only things that need a pre-coffee response are production-relat ed items, questions from east coast TV networks, or if I want to get folks on the kollektiv started on something. Otherwise, I just like getting a quick sense of whats come in overnight so I dont feel behind by the time I get to the amtsstube. We dont have any development shoots for the next few days, so email is light. Next, Im onto a quick news fix mostly national, political, entertainment trade, and tech. My bet is Im scanning sites for about half an hour, then I feel ready to get going. 745 a.m.After two cups of coffee and a shower, Im generally out the door by now and starting a longer-than-Id-like commute to Burbank from the westside. Ive tried a bunch of things to make this drive productive, but I dont love making work calls from the car, so Ive turned windshield time into personal time. I used to live in NY and DC, so I tend to call east coast friends and family, and Im now a big podcast listener. (Current rotation The Daily, Pod Save America, Recode Media, Freakonomics Radi o, RadioLab, Slow Burn, Where Should We Begin, and Missing Richard Simmons).845 a.m.Im (hopefully) in the office by now, and while I dont really have a typical day, BoBCat makes unscripted programming (think everything from feature docs and follow-docs to short form and branded content), so my time is primarily spent around the business of developing, selling, and producing and general corporate stuff. But were a new and growing company, so its more often a lot of troubleshooting and whack-a-mole than Id normally admit. Fortunately, I have two incredible parteners, so we share the load they lead the creative I take the strategy and operations side. But we all do a little of everything.Pictured BoBCat Co-founders Jeff Conroy, Thom Beers, and Sarah Bernard.930 a.m.Onto a weekly call with our communications agency, High10 Media. This weeks agenda includes the rollout of a History Channel series about family farms airing in 2019, some press inquiries for our cast, the upcoming premier of our documentary on ski filmmaker Warren Miller, and an update on our development slate. 1000 a.m.Im the deal lead at the office, so I spend a bunch of time on agreements with independent producers and networks. This morning, Im trying to move forward shopping agreements with four producers, secure a talent hold agreement, and review a development offer from a cable network. Some of it is simply getting comments off of my plate and onto our lawyers.1130 a.m.Now, a status call with our werber at WME. For these, were running through our development pipeline and where each project stands in terms of its readiness for market, sales strategy, network targets, and if weve been out pitching it, market feedback.1230 p.m.A quick punch-up to a show concept that we owe to a network tomorrow. (I wasnt kidding that we all do a little of everything, and I like writing).100 p.m.Internal rough cut screening of episode 7 for our farm series. We brought in lunch. (Im not a huge out-of-the-office lu nch fan in LA, as it takes so long to drive everywhere and disrupts the day, so I try to stack business meals at breakfast or drinks/dinner).300 p.m.By now, Im squeezing in some of the smaller to-dos on my list, returning calls and emails before I have to head out with my partners to do a pitch.345 p.m.In the car.430 p.m.Nobody likes a late afternoon meeting to pitch a show, but sometimes you have to take what you can get. For this meeting with a streaming network, were showing two concepts. 530 p.m.It doesnt make much sense to head back to the office at this point, so I squeeze in a drink with an industry colleague near the network. (Much of LA is about navigating traffic patterns).730 p.m.Im part of the Los Angeles Chapter of The Awesome Foundation, and weve got a meeting tonight in Koreatown. (The Awesome Foundation is a global network of self-organizing chapters that award $1,000 micro-grants to cool projects). Our chapter supports LA-centric projects, and weve funded everything from public swings and school supplies, to a program that converts unused college meal points to food for the homeless. After some food, drinks, friendly catch-up, and a vote on a grantee, were done for the night.1000 p.m.Im home by now and will do an end of day email check, screen anything I need to see before tomorrow, and jot down any new to-dos. The Robotic Moment
The Robotic Moment The Robotic Moment The Robotic MomentSherry Turkle, the psychologist who directs MITs Initiative on Technology and Self, sometimes tells the anecdote about how she welches once approached by a young psychology graduate student after a talk about reactions to sociable robots that can mimic and evoke emotions. Anne, the student, confided that she would trade in her boyfriend for a sophisticated Japanese robot if it could provide what she described as caring behavior.According to Turkle, who retold the anecdote during a plenary lecture to the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Boston this past February, Anne told me that she relied on a feeling of civility in her house and did not want to be alone. She said, If the robot could provide the environment, I would be happy to produce the illusion that there was somebody really with me.This was exactly the type of ironic remark graduate students make. Yet Anne was not joking. According to Turk le, who has studied the psychology of human interactions with technology since the first electronic games appeared in the late 1970s, there are so many people who feel as Anne does that something must be changing fundamentally in our relationship with robots and artificial intelligence.Todays robots are not only smarter, but increasingly able to engage us emotionally. As a result, Turkle said, humans have begun to think about their relationships with robots in new and often startling ways. For Further Discussion
